What We Do
Engaged Voters is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with a mission to develop informed voters into agents of change through organized post-election engagement with elected officials. The organization’s target is young, Black voters in Houston, Texas. Recognizing that young, Black voters have been historically underrepresented at the polls, our mission is to reach them where they are, making voting seem less out of reach and more relevant. We connect with voters at every stage of the voting process with an emphasis on voter education. Our vision is to expand our work across the city of Houston, into other cities in Texas, and nationwide.
Voter Registration
The Engaged Voters team is comprised of certified Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrars (VDVRS) and also has a database of volunteers who are certified. We can set up a table at your event to register voters or join you in voter registration canvassing. We also register voters at our own events.

- Event Tabling (fairs, forums, etc.)
- Voter Registration at EV hosted events
Voter Education

Civic Leadership Institute
Each Spring, EV hosts an 8-10 week Civic Leadership Institute to provide formal tools and training that will increase post-election civic engagement. It is a hybrid program that includes weekly sessions via Zoom and some in person activities. During legislative session years, participants have the opportunity join EV in an Advocacy Day at the Texas State Capitol. Other activities have included hosting a Voter Registration Drive and assisting with or attending candidate meet and greets. Applications typically open in February of each year. Graduation is typically hosted mid May of each year.
